Public discussion: Public Trust in the Criminal Justice System – an Instrument for Penal Policy Assessment
On May 11, 2011, the Center for the Study of the Democracy organized a public discussion on Public Trust in the Criminal Justice System – an Instrument for Penal Policy Assessment. At the event the organizers presented an analysis of survey results on the Bulgarian society’s level of confidence in the criminal justice institutions, on the public attitudes towards the level of corruption in these institutions and the subjective perceptions of fear of crime. more »

Strengthening Civil Society Capacity on the United Nations Convention against Corruption and its Review Mechanism
On 23 March 2011, at the Center for the Study of Democracy was held training on Strengthening Civil Society Capacity on the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and its Review Mechanism. It was a national follow-up of an international training (organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the UNCAC Coalition on 2-4 February 2011, in Laxenburg, Austria) attended by Dr. Maria Yordanova, CSD’s Law Program Director. more »

On 28 February, 2011, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a meeting of representatives of non-governmental organizations working in the field of criminal law with Mr. G. On 25 and 26 November, 2010, the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) together with the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a study visit on the Mechanisms for Fight against Corruption - Bulgaria’s Experience and Challenges for representatives of the Macedonian Parliament, Public Prosecution Office, State Commission for Prevention of Corruption, General Secretariat of the Government, Ministry of the Interior, The Association of the Units Of Local-Self Government, and representatives of non-government organizations as Transparency Macedonia and the Research Center for Civil Society. more »

Seminar: Conflict of Interest, Good Governance and Management of the Local Authority - Civil Society Relationship
On 14 May 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy, in conjunction with Ms. Maria Nedelcheva from the European People’s Party (EPP) and the Balkan Trust for Democracy initiative, organized a seminar on the topic of "Conflict of interest, good governance and management of the local authority - civil society relationship”. The seminar was focused on sharing experience in legislation pertaining to conflict of interest and its application to the public-private partnership between municipalities and NGOs. more »
 
Third Advisory Group Meeting of Asia-Europe Democratisation and Justice series
On 22 and 23 February 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted The third Advisory Group Meeting of Asia-Europe Democratisation and Justice Series organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation Indonesia. The Advisory Group includes experts from relevant international and regional organisations, NGOs and academe in the field of democratisation and justice. more »
 
Discussion on the Priorities of Judicial Reform in Bulgaria
On 8 October 2009 Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a meeting with U.S. District Judge John R. Tunheim who visited Bulgaria as part of the U.S. Department of Justice efforts to assist the reform of the Bulgarian judicial system. more »
 
CSD Delegation Visits China
From 7 to 13 September 2009 a delegation from the Center for the Study of Democracy and the Applied Research and Communications Fund visited China to discuss common achievements and challenges between Bulgaria and China in the areas of good governance and technological development. more »
