International Conference: Corruption and Organized Crime: Bridging Criminal and Economic Policies
On 23-24 June 2006 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized an international conference on the complementarity between law enforcement and economic policies against corruption and organized crime. On May 9, 2006, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted the first of a series of training seminars on The Judiciary and the Counteraction of Corruption and Organized Crime, organized jointly with Global Fisc Management. An international conference on hidden economy and transborder crime in SEE was held on 28-29 October 2005 in Hilton hotel in Sofia. Videoconference: Corruption and Organized Crime
On 30 September, 2005 the Center for Study of Democracy and the Sofia Distance Learning Center hosted the fifth and final videoconference under the Anti-corruption pilot program titled Corruption and Organized Crime. It was delivered to representatives of public and private sector organizations and NGOs at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, in Kiev and representatives from public and private sector and donor community in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. more »

The Center for the Study of Democracy held a public discussion on the new strategies to combat organised crime on March 2, 2005 at the Boyana Conference Center. Meeting to Discuss the Recommendations in the Transportation, Smuggling and Organized Crime Report
On October 12, 2004 the CSD hosted a meeting to discuss the conclusions and recommendations of the Transportation, Smuggling and Organized Crime report. The meeting was attended by Mr. Jeremy Hill, Ambassador, British Embassy, Mr. Boyko Kotzev and Mr. Roumen Stoilov, Deputy Ministers of Interior, Mr. Assen Assenov, Customs Agency Director, members of the Expert group which has developed the report and CSD experts. more »

The Philadelphia Inquirer reporter George Anastasia took part in a discussion about the role of the media in the fight against organized crime on September 29, 2004 at the CSD. Mr. Anastasia has been writing about organized and disorganized crime for the past twenty years, covering the action from Atlantic City and South Philadelphia. more »
