Strengthening Governance for Sustainable Production in Bulgaria
On 26 November 2009 the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a Project Briefing for representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Innovation Norway, and the Norwegian Embassy. The meeting gave opportunity to present in detail the work of CSD on Strengthening Governance for Sustainable Production in Bulgaria, which is implemented jointly with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and is supported by Norway grants through Innovation Norway.

CSD aims to improve the governance for sustainable production in the energy sector through: research and monitoring, policy advocacy and public awareness, capacity building and knowledge transfer. At the Project Briefing CSD’s team outlined some of the key energy sector governance issues such as: lack of consistent and up-to-date sector data that is publicly available, lack of transparent, inclusive and unbiased decision making process, strong internal and external economic and political interests that influence policy making in the sector. The project hopes to contribute not only to the public debate on the sector’s governance practices, but also to the design of key strategic documents and policies prepared by the national government in the immediate future.
