Launch of the project "Initiative for Civic Culture" of the "Town and Culture" Foundation - Varna
On January 10, 2003, a "Day of Open Doors" was organized in the Varna District Court with the participation of 15 pupils from the "Vassil Levski" Technique School. First, the pupils attended a court session on two bail convictions for drug possession. After that, they enacted a similar session under the supervision of Judge Sonja Nejkova. After several such criminal sessions, the pupils should be asked to enact a corruption trial in court.
The project "Initiative for Civic Culture" of the "Town and Culture" Foundation - Varna, was launched on November 25, 2002, with a "Day of Open Doors" at the Varna District Governor's Office, with the participation of 25 pupils from the "Vassil Levski" Technique School on Construction Building.
Prior to the event a special school lecture on local government institutions was delivered. During the meeting with the District Governor, the pupils were acquainted with his major responsibilities, his team and the most important administrative services. A lot of practical questions were raised, connected with the possibilities for power misuse, corruption, decision-taking mechanisms, and the various political and economic interests.
Another outcome the "Initiative for Civic Culture" project will be the Schoolteachers Training Seminar that will promote the more active cooperation between schools and the local government institutions.
